Chicago 31st Street Marina

As part of the Chicago Sustainable Development Policy directives, the City of Chicago wanted to retrofit the Chicago 31st Street Marina with environmentally-friendly technology that would have minimal impact on the natural surroundings.

Read more about the entire Chicago 31st Street Harbor environmental project.

This new marina features over 1,000 boat slips, a beach, play areas, and several amenities including an extensive green roof area.

When it came to installing an HVAC system for the harbor area, the City of Chicago contracted AWeb Geo to install a geothermal system for the new 31st Street Marina. The AWeb team installed several heat exchangers into the geothermal system, which was then submerged into the marina that nests in Lake Michigan.

The city of Chicago tasked teams from AWeb Geo to perform the geothermal install. These videos document the execution of the install process, including the heat exchangers being flushed / filled / and sunk in Lake Michigan.
